Extract from Conclusions of a Meeting of the Cabinet held on the
1st June at 11.30 a.m.

Peking and Tientsin
3.
The Cabinet had before them the Conclusions of the
Second Meeting of the Cabinet Committee on China,
relative to
-
(1) The policy of the Government in regard to Peking
and Tientsin:
and
(ii) The proposed withdrawal of Indian troops.

As regards Peking and Tientsin, the Cabinet
took note of and approved action already taken on
the following decisions of the Committee:-
a) That Sir Miles Lampson should be informed tht, in
the view of His Majesty's Government, there was, a
present information, no necessity to evacuate British subjects or His Majesty's Legation from Peking: (b) That General Duncan should be authorised to
despatch, on demand by the Colonel Commandant,
North China, one Battalion from Shanghai to Tientsin
or at Peking as might be required:
(c) That General Duncan should be instructed to
proceed
